My teenage daughter has gotten more and more into music the last few years. It was only natural that she would start hounding me to let her go to concerts. There have been a few concerts that she has wanted to go to but I wanted her first concert to be a great one and I wanted to enjoy it with her. The Glamour Kills Tour was the perfect first concert for her. Thanks to RazorGator, we were able to get some sweet concert tickets!

We brought her dad and her best friend with us for the big night. I knew she would have more fun if she had a friend with. I may be an awesome mom but I am still a mom. The girls were in heaven the whole time. I do not think the night could have been any more perfect.

The Venue: The Rave/Eagles Club in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
The Eagles Club was built in 1926. When it was first built it included a boxing ring with seating, a swimming pool, a high-end restaurant and a bowling alley. It was recognized on the National Register of Historic Places on July 29, 1986. From the outside, the building does not look like much but the inside is amazing.

Today the building is known as The Rave or Eagles Ballroom. It has two names because it houses two great concert stages. The complex has 6 different areas and 5 stages. The Rave has an open feel to it. When I have seen bands there I always enjoyed being able to check out another band playing in The Rave Bar at the same time.

The Eagles Ballroom has a grand feel to it. I have seen many concerts but there is just something about concerts at The Eagles Ballroom. It has an elegant 25,000 square foot dance floor, domed ceiling, and wrap around balcony seating with carved Eagle sculptures and intricate trim on the pillars.

The Rave/Eagles Club is located at the corner of 24th Street and Wisconsin Avenue. There is VIP parking available in two lots adjacent to the building. The price varies according to what concert is that night. VIP parking was $25 the night of our show so we had planned on just parking on the street. We arrived there an hour and a half before the show and found that the streets were packed full of people for the show so we paid for VIP parking to save us from a long cold walk.

The Show: Glamour Kills Tour – All Time Low headlining
It was like a sea of screaming teenage girls. Even a half hour before the doors opened the line wrapped around the building and down the street. I had no idea how big this show was going to be. As we entered The Eagles Ballroom we were faced with the decision of where to watch the concert. James was the smart one. He headed straight up the stairs to a balcony. It is all general admission and the only chairs are up in the balconies.

We had a great view of the concert and the wild frenzy of screaming teenage girls. The concert went from 7:15 until after 11pm. I am very glad that we got to sit down comfortably. We did have to guard our seats with our lives though. Anytime someone had to use the bathroom or I moved for a better picture there was a mass of people trying to steal a seat. I have to admit we did have great seats.

The Glamour Kills Tour has four bands; We the Kings, Hey Monday, The Friday Night Boys, and of course All Time Low. Each band played for about an hour. I channeled my inner teenage girl and had an incredible time with my daughter and her best friend. I am very thankful that my daughter has good taste in music so we can enjoy stuff together.

All of the bands commented that they had never played in front of that many people before. It really seemed to energize all of the bands. They kept thanking the audience and saying that it was the best show of the tour. Everyone seemed to feel the energy which made the concert even more amazing.
The first three bands were really good but All Time Low blew the crowd away. I had no idea how many crazed fan girls they had. As soon as they hit the stage bras started flying. As they play one of the band members collects bras on his microphone stand. I do not even know how the thing was able to stand up any longer.

  1. Dylan Says:

I also attended the show at The Rave that evening. While down at crowd level, the sound of all of the girls screaming was almost deafening!

I’m in the band Good News First from Madison, WI. Last year we were fortunate enough to have played at The Rave with the bands Boys Like Girls, Good Charlotte, Metro Station and The Maine on the Soundtrack of Your Summer Tour. The Eagles Ballroom is certainly a beautiful venue.

It’s so great that that this was your daughter’s first concert experience.

We’re a bit like Hey Monday in that we have a female lead singer. Feel free to check out our songs for yourself at http://www.myspace.com/goodnewsfirst. Hopefully we’ll be back to The Rave soon again! It’s possible that we will be playing with The Friday Night Boys on their headlining tour on February 2.
