Thank you RazorGator for hooking the Big Dog up with one heck of an experience! Wow! I have seen Seahawks games on TV and have marveled at the look of the stadium. Plus, let’s face it, the Seattle Seahawks have a reputation for having one of the toughest places in the NFL to play at Qwest Field. But the questions the Big Dog had were is the stadium really all it is cracked up to be, and are the fans truly that rabid?
How about a resounding YES!
This was a battle of NFC West division rivals the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals. Obviously I was there in support of my hometown Cardinals, and shall we see the reception I received as a result of my apparel was not the most welcoming? HA! Who got the last laugh there my friends?!
The home of the Seahawks, Qwest Field
This is one outstanding stadium, what a great place to watch some football! Qwest Field is located at 800 Occidental Ave S, #100, Seattle, WA 98134. Located a hop, skip and a jump away from where the Seattle Mariners play, Qwest Field opened in July 2002. Home of the Seahawks and the Seattle Sounders FC of Major League Soccer, this stadium has a reputation for being one of the loudest stadiums in the NFL. The rep is well-deserved, I was blown away by how loud this stadium is, especially considering this is not a dome, this is an open-air venue!
I sat in the south endzone, section 120. I had a fabulous view of downtown Seattle from where I sat, which is opposite the endzone with famed Hawks Nest. Surrounded by a “Sea” of Seattle fans, I was hounded the whole game, but I have to admit that Seahawks fans were great to be around. Some stadiums are well-known for the fans being overly hostile to out-of-town guests, but for the most part that was not the case here. Yes, there were a few overzealous ones, but pointing at the scoreboard seemed to do the trick pretty quick.

Accommodations near Qwest Field
Seattle is loaded with places to stay close to Qwest Field, so whether you are looking to stay close to the field, or maybe away from the stadium closer to the Space Needle or other attraction in Seattle, you will be able to easily lock down a place to stay. Hunt around, some hotels can be a bit pricey, but if you take some time and do your homework you will save some money so you can hit some of the cool music stores in town.
Tickets for the Seattle Seahawks
This is a tough one folks. A fan base like this makes Seahawks tickets like gold. Check out the Seattle Seahawks website to see their ticket availability, but as always the Big Dog highly suggest your friends at RazorGator for Hard-To-Get Seahawks tickets.
Restaurants and bars to hang out at before and after the game
The foot-long dogs at the stadium are pretty tasty, but at $8.75 a pop that gets a bit pricey. There are plenty of restaurants and bars close to Qwest Field to get riled up at before game-time, or in this case to drown your sorrows at after the beat-down from the Cardinals <grin> The Big Dog is a bit partial to the selection at Uwajimaya Village Food Court.
Getting to the game
Traffic is pretty intense for Seahawks games, and if you really do need to drive there are garages all over close to the stadium. However, I discovered pretty quick there are so many mass transit options to Qwest Field, including bus, light rail, Amtrak train and ferry options, that getting to the game without having to drive is a pretty nice proposition.
Other things to do while you visit Seattle
If you are from out of town, do not come in for the game and immediately take off thereafter. There is WAY too much to do in this incredible city. This was the Big Dog’s first visit and I assure you it will not be my last. Seattle is well known for its music scene, so be sure to check out live music venues such as Neumos, The Crocodile and The Paramount while in town. Also, there are a slew of great record stores such as Easy Street Records and Silver Platters. Be sure to take the time to head over to the Space Needle and visit the Seattle Center after going to the top of the Space Needle. Once done there, walk over to Cafe Mecca at 526 Queen Anne Ave N for killer food and a great atmosphere.
What a stadium, what a crowd, and what a game! Go Cards!
Take care,
