I was lucky enough to get to attend the Australian Pink Floyd show at USANA Amphitheatre last week with concert tickets from RazorGator. USANA Amphitheatre is located in West Valley City, Utah (a suburb of Salt Lake City). I’ve heard nothing but spectacular things about this show and being a big Pink Floyd fan, I was really excited to be able to attend this show. I’ve never seen the real Pink Floyd and probably will not ever have the opportunity to. So, second best is definitely okay in this case.

USUANA
USANA Amphitheatre is definitely my favorite venue for concerts. I’ve seen many, many shows here. The amphitheatre can accommodate 20,000 fans. 13,000 lawn seats and 7,000 reserved seats.

The amphitheatre is located on the west side of the Salt Lake valley. The only things that are immediately nearby are the West Ridge Golf Course. Within 5 miles of the amphitheatre you can head over to Jordan Landing in West Jordan, Utah for a 16-screen movie theater, restaurants like Applebee’s, Carino’s, Joe’s Crab Shack and a Tepanyaki Japanese Steakhouse, plus shopping centers like Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, Kohl’s, Old Navy and Target.

The show was scheduled to start at 7:30 PM but it was closer to 8:00 by the time they came out on stage. They opened the show with Breathe from Dark Side of the Moon album.

The ambience of the entire crowd was very mellow. This wasn’t one of those shows where the crowd was all wild and crazy. There was no crowd surfing or mosh pits or screeching guitar solos.

My sister and I hopped around from seat to seat all night long. The tickets we had were for the lawn but security was pretty loose and we were able to move around quite freely.

I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t a cool light show. As that is one of the things that really makes a Pink Floyd show significant from any other (I’ve seen some on TV). And though it was the Australian Pink Floyd and for the most part you’d not be able to tell if it was really them or not…the light show was something we definitely noticed missing.

Off the top of my head these are the songs that I can remember being played:

Time
Money
Dark Side Of The Moon
Shine On You Crazy Diamond
Welcome To The Machine
Wish You Were Here
Run Like Hell
Another Brick In The Wall
Comfortably Numb
Hey You
Learning To Fly (one of my favorites!)

They also played some songs off of the album Animals and The Division Bell but I’m not too familiar with those albums.

My sister and I also really wanted them to play the song Mother, as that is one of our favorite songs. We were both sitting there…beers in hand, hoping they’d play it. They didn’t.

The last song was Comfortably Numb and it drew the most cheers from the crowd but people started pouring out of the amphitheatre before the song had ended. I, being a frequent concert-gore, knew the show wasn’t over…and we were too curious to see what song they may do as an encore, so we stuck around. And I’m glad we did.

We snuck down to the lower section and were about 6 rows back from the stage. The encore performance was the song Run Like Hell…so glad we waited!

All in all it was a fun concert. Not the kind of show you can get wild and crazy at but for the die hard Pink Floyd fans, the Aussie Pink Floyd show is a wonderful treat. Thank you RazorGator for the excellent Australian Pink Floyd tickets!

Great review, Annette, they picked the PERFECT person to go to this show as I know how much you love Pink Floyd. I’m glad you got to go and had such a terrific time.
I never understood why people leave a concert before the very end… you never know what might happen, I, too am one of those that doesn’t leave until the VERY last light is on and the roadies are clearing the stage!! :-)

    Annette,

I don’t know what show you were watching, but Aussie Floyd has the best audio and visual show that I have seen. I have seen many many artist in the day!! I have seen the last two Aussie tours and both have been incredible. My friend in Chicago stated the show was “freaking awesome” and is going to see them again in Ohio.

I think you need to get better seats next time!!
