This past weekend was my oldest daughter’s birthday. In an effort to balance out the massive estrogen overload caused by manicures and pedicures, I chose to take my son to an Orioles baseball game on Sunday. Thanks to EventChaser and RazorGator, this was a great day!

I’d never been to Oriole Park before, and I was pleasantly surprised. It was extremely easy to get to via car and parking was a breeze! Open since 1992, Oriole Park seats 48,876 people. That number includes the 2 standing room only sections that flank center field. Oriole Park is a quick 15 minute or less walk to the famous Baltimore Inner Harbor.

Directions to Oriole Park
I drove to the park, taking 295 straight into the city. This was literally so easy it was crazy. I thought it would be harder than it actually was and left 2 hours before game time to ensure arrival by first pitch. It only took us 20 minutes to arrive at the stadium and park. At the lot where we parked, it was only $8 per car. I found that to be quite reasonable. After a quick walk to the stadium, we were ready for the game to start!

Refreshments and Souvenirs: At the Game and Outside the Stadium
What is better than a hot dog, cracker jacks, peanuts, and beer when attending a baseball game? Nothing, unless you don’t want to pay stadium prices. Lucky for you there are vendors in place outside the stadium where you can purchase drinks at over 50% the cost of inside the park. There are also T-Shirt vendors offering the same discounts.

One great bonus is that Camden Yards offers a designated driver bonus. If you sign up to be the designated driver for your group, you get a coupon for a FREE soda! Score! They actually gave me 2 coupons when I signed up. I don’t know if that’s the normal procedure or if that just happened because my son was beside me.

There are also ice stations set up throughout the concourse where you can get a FREE cup of ice, returning as many times as you want, to help combat the sweltering heat that accompanies the Summer ballgames. It was 90+ degrees when we went on Sunday, and we totally took advantage of the FREE ice!

Since Camden Yards is so close to the Inner Harbor, you can forgo stadium food and hit any one of the fabulous places to eat around there. Including, but not limited to The Cheesecake Factory, Hooters, and the ESPN Zone.

There is also a full mall located at the Inner Harbor where you can find great Orioles gear for everyone in the family. If fine dining is more your speed, there are restaurants at the harbor that will appeal to you as well.

Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Charleston, and Shula’s Steak House are just a few of the restaurants you can choose from to fulfill your fine dining needs.

The Orioles Game
Did you notice the seats on the tickets? We were in section 44, row NN. That’s how close we were! 18 rows behind home plate baby! We were surrounded by some serious die hard fans for both teams. So there was no joy in Baltimore Sunday night after the Orioles game (through most of the Angels/Orioles series from what I understand). Oh well, maybe they’ll do better in Tampa Bay tonight.

This game was so full of excitement it was crazy! From a bottom of the 5th inning 2 run homer by Nick Markakis to tie the game, to a bottom of the 8th hit by the Orioles to tie the game at 8 all, and finally a 13th inning 9 run rally by the Angels, we were on the edge of our great seats (18 rows behind home plate)! With a final score of 17-8, it was definitely a game we’ll remember for a long time.

Thanks again EventChaser and RazorGator for the MLB tickets! We had a blast!
