On Friday night I was able to take my family (well, most of them) to a baseball game with Salt Lake Bees tickets thanks to EventChaser. The Bees are a minor league team here in Utah. Going to the Bees games are always fun and are great family events. The seats were awesome, perfect view of the entire field and the crowd.
I was given five baseball tickets so that my entire family could go. My daughter decided she didn’t want to go. So we had her stay home with Ethan and we took Hunter, his friend and our nephew. They laughed that I was the only girl going to a baseball game.

We were pretty stoked to see that our seats were right behind home plate. The only downfall to that was the safety netting got in the way of all of my pictures. I’m not complaining about that at all, it’s there for a reason! I was able to take my SLR camera in to the game so I was able to zoom in really close.
Spring Mobile Ballpark, home of the Salt Lake Bees offers a fantastic view of the Wasatch Mountains and seating for 15,500 fans. Located just south of downtown Salt Lake City there are many restaurants in the area, including local favorite, Little World Chinese Restaurant (one of my personal favorites).
Seasonal activities: Nightmare on 13th, located less than a mile, just west of the ball park. The attraction is open throughout September and October each year and was voted one of the scariest haunted attractions by the Travel Channel.

The Bees Salt Lake Bess Up to Bat
We were happily watching the game. The kids were sucking on snow cones and had already eaten some cotton candy. We were about half way through the second inning when it got dark. Like really dark, really fast and then the wind. A fierce, angry wind!
And then something I’ve never seen before, they covered the field! I’ve never seen them do this before, I didn’t even know that they could. I just always assumed if it rained then it would be rained out and they’d have to do a make up game (like softball).
We sat and watched them cover the field. As soon as the field was covered they started forcing people out of the stands because there was a lot of lightning in the area. Yikes!
So we’re inside, but because it’s not totally enclosed the cold wind is still blowing in. It was very cold! And it was just pouring at this point. POURING.
We decided to hold out a bit to see if the would rain let up. A lot of people left. We didn’t want to walk in the rain so we just hung out. The kids got to meet with a few mascots that were wandering around, including the Bees mascot, Bumble. The kids were excited to have their picture taken with him and get autographs.
To keep people entertained they played “rain songs” Blame It On The Rain by Milli Vanilli, Umbrella> by Rhianna and Have You Ever Seen The Rain by CCR. It was kind of funny when the Milli Vanilli song was on, as they were playing the music video on the scoreboard out on the field
Finally, about an hour later, the rain stopped. They rolled up the cover and people started going back to their (wet) seats
First they moved it to the outfield, behind third base so they could drain it. Then they actually bring it back over the diamond and roll it up towards first and second base. When I seen them bringing it back I thought that it was going to rain again and they were covering up.
The game started at 7:05 PM MST. The rain hit us halfway through the second inning and it was almost 9:30 PM before they started playing again. We ended up having to leave around 10:30 PM because the kids had had enough. Had the game not been interrupted then they would have been able to handle a 3/3.5 hour game.
When we left they were only in the top half of the fifth inning and we were losing. Final score was 8-5 with the win going to the Fresno Grizzlies. It was still a fun night despite the rain and the cold (OMG it was cold!). The kids had a lot of fun. Even though they got bored by the time the game was picking up. But because of the delay a lot of people were leaving.
One more thing, not baseball relatedn they played clips of music periodically throughout the game. Just to keep the crowd going, etc. Most of the songs played that night were Michael Jackson songs. I thought it was kind of cool that the stadium did that and it was a hit with the crowd too I had fun and want to thank RazorGator for the Baseball tickets!
