Thanks to RazorGator and EventChaser I scored some great Arizona Diamondbacks tickets to my (along with America’s) favorite past time — a baseball game. This was my first time attending a game at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona and to say I was impressed would be an understatement.
Chase Field Details
Chase Field
401 East Jefferson Street
Phoenix, Arizona 85004
The surroundings of Chase Field are overwhelming in a standing in awe and marveling kind of way. Surrounded by numerous attractions such as Herberger Theater Center, Phoenix Theatre and US Airways Center, your eyes will be darting left to right lost in the downtown Phoenix culture. Upon approaching Chase Field, you will see bar and grills and PediCab cabbies.
Did you know that Chase Field hosted games 1,2,6 and 7 of the 2001 World Series - Arizona Diamondbacks vs. New York Yankees? So while you are there, sitting in those seats, close your eyes and imagine the greatness that has passed over each base and stood on the pitching mound.
Also did you know that Chase Field has a retractable roof? Good news for those worried about sitting in the extreme heats of Arizona - they close the roof, leaving the stadium at a comfortable temperature so you can sit down and enjoy the game!
Police Officers atop horses will be trotting the streets right along next to you. Ambassadors for the downtown area are wearing bright orange shirts and are there to assist you with any question you may have for them.
Directions to Chase Field
I was coming from the East Valley so I had a little bit of a drive ahead of me. I left over an hour early, leaving room for traffic, lines, parking etc. Even with leaving that early I arrived at the game at 5:30 pm and had NO problems finding parking, there were no lines and traffic was a breeze. I exited off Interstate 10 via the HOV lane onto 3rd Street.
After exiting I followed the road around to Monroe Street. I took a right on Monroe and parked in a parking structure on Monroe and 1st Street. While I had to walk a couple blocks, you can also hop on a PediCab to take you to the game.
Directions from Southwest Valley
Take I-10, use the right three lanes to I-17 at the split and exit to the right on 7th Street, then left at the signal light at Lincoln St., or continue north on 7th St. to Jefferson St. and turn right to access parking facilities east of 7th Street. Please note that left turns from 7th Street westbound onto Washington Street are prohibited.
Helpful Hint:
To avoid congestion, continue on I-17 to the 7th Ave. exit and then turn right (northbound). Continue northbound and turn right at Lincoln Street or Jefferson Street.
From West Valley
Take I-10 to 7th Ave. or the 5th Avenue HOV exit, and then turn right. Turn left on Fillmore, Van Buren (accessible from 5th Ave. only) or Jefferson Street to access convenient parking.
From Northwest Valley
Use I-17 to the Jefferson St. exit, then turn left and continue eastbound.
From North Central Phoenix
Use surface streets, including 7th Avenue, 1st Avenue, and 7th Street.
Helpful Hint:
Due to heavy usage, 7th Street is the least preferred option.
From Northeast Valley
Use the Squaw Peak Parkway to I-10 eastbound, exit at Washington Street and turn right, or take I-10 westbound to the 7th Street exit and turn left.
Helpful Hint:
To avoid congestion, continue on I-10 to 7th Avenue or the 5th Avenue HOV exit. Turn left on Fillmore, Van Buren (accessible from 5th Ave. only) or Jefferson Street.
From Scottsdale Or East Mesa
Take Loop 202 West to I-10 and exit at 7th Avenue or the 5th Avenue HOV exit. Turn left on Fillmore, Van Buren (accessible from 5th Avenue only) or Jefferson Street.
Additional Arrival Information (from Chase Field Directions)
Southbound traffic on 3rd St. may be routed west at Washington Street as conditions dictate. If this occurs you have several options. You may continue west on Washington Street to 1st Avenue, turn left on 1st Avenue and continue south or head east on Jefferson Street to access parking.
Helpful Hints:
* If you are headed southbound on 7th Street and traffic is backed-up, consider turning right on Roosevelt or Fillmore Streets and use 1st Street or 1st Avenue to travel south.
*Use the HOV lanes to get in and out of Copper Square for events. Multiple passengers are required only during peak rush hours of 6am-9am and 3pm-7pm weekdays.
*Due to heavy usage, the 3rd Street HOV exit is the least preferred option during event ingress.
*Look for important advice on electronic message signs on the freeway and surface streets on your way to Copper Square. They will help you find the best route.
*Park in the same quadrant from which you have entered (e.g. if you enter from the south, park between 3rd Avenue and 9th Street, from Lincoln to Jefferson Street).
Parking at Chase Field
At most events, as we know parking can be a hassle. I had no issues whatsoever when it came to parking. There are numerous parking lots and parking structures for your use. They will be labeled and priced for you to see. No guessing or turning into the wrong lane. There are signs along each road giving you directions to various parking structures you can use.
Food and Drink Establishments Near Chase Field
To me the best part about a baseball game is the stadium food. But as we know, stadium food can always a little bit more expensive than the food you can get surrounding the ball park. What’s even better than stadium food? The diverse restaurants in the downtown area.
Searching for a little rock and roll to amp you up before the game? Check out Alice Copper’s Town. The memorabilia will definitely get you in the nostalgic mood of baseball. Wanting some drinks and pizza? I mean who wouldn’t before hitting up a baseball game. Check out Pizzeria Bianco for an authentic feel and amazing food. And of course if you are feeling spicy and want some rich flavorful Mexican food check out Mi Amigo’s.
The Game, The Venue, The Fun
Outside Chase Field as my son and I were approaching you will find vendors dotted along the streets, hollering to buy their water or their peanuts. There are a few vendors right outside the field offering up their programs. You won’t be attacked or approached to buy their products, but they are entertaining to speak and banter with. My son and I went through the gate with ease and not a lot of time waiting in the least.
Once inside there is so much to see. The trophy from the World Series, previous players jersey’s, such as Randy Johnson. Once inside you must stop and get you a large cup of ice cream from the Cold Stone Creamery vendor. So worth it. I got myself a soda and of course popcorn and we found our seats. There are ushers along each aisle to help you get to your seat and remind you were you were seated at.
Inside Chase Field there is so much going on, that bringing a child is not an issue at all. From cheering on their players, watching the people, interacting with the various things that are going on, your child young or old is sure to be entertained. We scored some amazing seats, once again thank you to RazorGator and EventChaser for the baseball tickets, so we got to see the action up close.
The sights, the sounds the smell of each and every baseball game is something to be cherished forever. Chase Field emphasizes on this with each Arizona Diamondbacks game. On Friday after the game you can even watch fireworks. Something to definitely stick around for.
Thank you to EventChaser and RazorGator for getting my son and I tickets, to his very FIRST baseball game ever. It was well worth it and so much fun!
