Let’s talk about Brooklyn! No, no I don’t mean Brooklyn, New York. I recently visited this cute little town located in the Irish Hills of Michigan. When I say little, I really mean little. We are talking about less than 2,000 residents. While it may be small, it’s really a gorgeous place. Rolling-green hills and 3 nearby lakes make it a great vacation place. Not only is Brooklyn, Michigan great for taking a break, but it’s also known for one of the fastest NASCAR tracks, Michigan International Speedway.

This 2 mile track has been apart of the NASCAR experience for 40 year now. Located on 1,400 acres of lush greenery, Michigan International Speedway not only offers the scenery outside the track, but inside as well. With wide corners and long striaghtways, you can see some of the fastest driving right here! It’s not uncommon for speeds to exceed 200 mph!
Michigan International Speedway is located in Brooklyn, Michigan, one mile west on U.S. 12 from the intersection of M50.

Parking is free on MIS property during the day.
PARKING LOT LOCATIONS:
- BEHIND CENTER GRANDSTAND - Lots 1,2 & 3 Accessed off the east side of Brooklyn Highway at Gates 1,2 and 3. Lot 3 access on Sundays is Gate 3 off Vicary Road.
- NORTH LOT - Lot 4 Accessed off Brooklyn Highway at Gate 4. Sunday access is off Vicary Road.
- EAST LOTS - Lots 6 & 7 Accessed off M-50.
- EAST LOTS - Lots 8 & 9 Accessed off U.S.12 at Gate 8.
- WATER TOWER LOT - Lot 10 Accessed off Brooklyn Highway at Gate 10.
- WEST LOT - Lot 11 On the corner of U.S.12 at Gates 11E and 11W.
- WEST LOT- Lot 12 Accessed off of Brooklyn Highway at Gate 121.
- EAST LOT- Lot 14 Access off U.S.12 from northbound M-50 at Gate 101.
Overnight parking is not permitted on these lots.

Here is some free transportation for you! These trams will take you from the parking lots to designated drop off locations.
Campgrounds at Michigan International Speedway
If you would like to camp while you’re visiting, you’ll have a few choices. There are a total of 8 camping spots for visitors. Campgrounds are located both outside of the facility and on the Infield. There are options for both motorhomes and tents. Remember to call in and check availability early on to ensure you and your group have a space reserved! MIS Tips!
- Study the seating chart before paying for tickets. Search Google for a 3D seating chart, sometimes these help me understand a layout better.
- If calling the box office directly, ask for the best seats. You just might get lucky.
- Shop for tickets early, the best ones go first! If what you want is gone, check with RazorGator for NASCAR tickets.
- If you want something “extra” for your experience, look into Pit Passes. You can get down there in the middle of the action.
- MIS offers special Bus Tour Packages which take the “trip planning” out of your hands. The package includes lunch, pit passes, parking and more.
- You can find some cool independent vendors on the west side of Brooklyn Highway right across from the main grandstand.
Brooklyn, Michigan Accommodations
I’ve got a few hotels for you guys here. These places are all close to the track, so it will make commuting easy. There is no point in adding on more time to your schedule, right?
Waterfront Suites and Rooms – These are available adjacent to Eagle Point Marina & Boat Club in Clarklake, Michigan. This is only located about 20 mins from MIS. Suites include A/C, Cable, DVD players, kitchen basics and laundry. Maid service is optional.
Hideaway Cove log Cabins - Enjoy some fishing, swimming, boating all only 12 mins away from MIS. There are a total of 5 cabins, so expect a bit of privacy on your stay.
Dewey Lake Manor Bed & Breakfast - Amenities at this B&B include paddleboats, canoes, bbq grills, croquet and more. This home is situated on 18 acres of lush green scenery; the perfect place to wander off for a long walk. Be sure to check the site for any current specials.
Brooklyn, Michigan Pubs and Food!
Sometimes you want to venture out a little, see the town, find some food or maybe just locate the beers. Well I’ve got a couple of places to check out.
Jerry’s Pub On the Lake – Decent wine list, domestic beer on tap and a full menu of yummy food. What more do you need? Drinks are cheap; you can play pool, pinball and watch sports on the jumbo TV.
Hawkeye’s Grill & Pub - Full menu, full bar, bonfires out back, cable TV sounds like a good hang out spot to me. Happy Hours is from 2-6pm and again from 10pm till close!
